Yas Fitness Festival

Get moving: Free workouts in Abu Dhabi all weekend at the Yas Fitness Festival

A study earlier this month found that as many as 62 percent of residents may be overweight, proving once again that obesity is a serious issue in the UAE. The survey was carried out online by the Oman Insurance Company, surveying more than 3,000 customers. What to do? Well, consider entering the Yas Fitness Festival, part of an ongoing movement to get people moving and losing weight.

The event offers a full roster of Les Mills classes each day, including Zumba, Body Attack and Body Pump, as well as yoga and RPM. Participants can also work out at the 800 Sports Outdoor Gym and test their agility by navigating hurdles, hoops and slides as part of Bootcamp’s inflatable obstacle course. There will also be workshops on losing weight and nutrition led by the event’s ambassadors, including:

  • Julie Montagu, a UK yoga teacher and founder of Whole Self Yoga, she was recently named one of the Top 10 Holistic Health Icons in the world. She will be leading several yoga classes and nutrition workshops. She operates the membership wellness site Truly Julie.
  • Haya Alsharham, who is the first female-trained CrossFit instructor from Kuwait
  • Jeremy Gwyer, a Dubai-based body composition coach from Melbourne
  • Jelena Petelinkar, a Dubai-based holistic, fitness and health instructor

In addition to a Slim n Lite Healthy Cooking Challenge, featuring a number of healthy recipes, there will be food trucks on hand to help refuel.

The Yas Fitness Festival runs from 11am to 8pm Friday and Saturday. Register for free access and access a full schedule of classes.
