After taking up its digital space last year, livehealthy.ae met up with Dubai’s health and fitness community for an IRL launch at Native, the hip new gym and wellness space at Zabeel House Dubai. The event was organized by travel and wellness influencer (and livehealthy.ae contributor) Danae Mercer, who drew together a crowd of the city’s most popular fitness influencers.
The group were introduced to Stick Mobility, a brand-new workout led by Rania Boucher and Parveez Saligh, trainers with the Dubai-based fitness solution company Mefitpro. The workout, which is designed to help improve joint range of motion, tissue quality, strength, and coordination, challenged some of the city’s fittest invites, including Adam and Olivia McCubbin , Viv and Mike Addo (aka MrandMrs.Muscle), and Nadine Du Toit. Following the workout, everyone sat down on cushions and tuned in as livehealthy.ae editor Ann Marie McQueen led a q + a session focusing on gut health with Dr Nasr al Jafari, a general practitioner and functional medicine specialist at DNA Health — and member of the livehealthy.ae expert panel.
“All the studies seem to correlate that the state of our gut health is proportional to the quality of our health,” Dr Al Jafari told the group. “You’re hearing a lot about diversity and microbiome, we still don’t know what the perfect microbiome is.”
The cause of many digestive issues may not show up on traditional medical tests, but many are related to food, ingesting toxins and stress.
“That is a big one and when I talk about stress I don’t just talk about emotional stress, I talk about sleep disruption, not moving enough, even overexercising,” he said. “These are kind of manipulating our gut health, our gut permeability, the diversity of our microbiome, the balance of our gut bacteria, our digestive function.”
Post-talk, Mefitpro was on hand to work out any knots and tensions with their popular hand-held Theragun (available on the popular new health and fitness equipment and supplement site Qooah) for muscle activation, recovery and pain relief. Afterward guests snacked on Encas by Justine‘s new range of KiK bites snacks, as well as Atkins protein bars, Clean Protein shakes and other Zabeel House snacks.
