Ever wanted to do a triathlon and thought, “It’s far too long”? Good news. The 2019 Daman Challenge TriYas has added a new “super sprint” category to its February 15 twilight event – a 375-meter swim in Yas Marina and a 10-km cycle ride on the Yas Marina Circuit followed by a 2.5-km run. Even further trimming the possible list of excuses, Yas Marina Circuit will be offering free bikes.

LightHouse Arabia is holding its third annual day of wellbeing, offering 21 workshops for 300 attendees of Friday, January 25. Topics including boosting communication with children and among couples, unlocking creativity, healing meditation – even mindful baking. The center, which was founded in 2011 by clinical psychologists Dr Saliha Afridi and Dr Tara Wyne, has an international team of more than 20 psychologists and psychiatrists. Registration is required for the event, which costs Dh105, with children 12 and under free, and runs from 11am until 4pm.

Express Auto Wash recycles

Ever think about how much water the UAE’s many manual car washers use daily? A new option – Express Auto Wash at Abu Dhabi’s Mushrif Mall – has introduced a conveyor-based tunnel system that recycles 95 percent of the water. They promise a quick, thorough wash that you can feel good about. Washes start at Dh30.

Yas Island gets a new fitness fest

Yas Island has a packed schedule this year, including the first Yas Fitness and Wellbeing Festival. Running all day March 1 and 2 at Gateway Park South, there aren’t many specifics so far. But the website promises 50-plus vendors selling everything from supplements to organic food to fitness gear. There are also boxing, MMA and other fitness classes, as well as yoga and relaxation zones.

Vietnamese Foodies gives back

The owner of Vietnamese Foodies, the highly recommended restaurant in Dubai’s JLT, is handing over all the restaurant’s takings on February 4 to the outlet’s 27 staff. This is to mark the Lunar New Year, known as Tet in Vietnam, and which falls on February 5. Tet, similar to Chinese New Year, is one of the biggest holidays in Vietnam. During the festivities, it is usual for elders to give younger family members Bao Li Xi, or red envelopes containing cash, explained Lily Hoa Nguyen, the eatery’s owner and executive chef.
