Global Wellness Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries at 5,000 locations. Although the path to inner peace can be very expensive, here in the UAE, there is no reason to spend any money getting all zen-ed up. A number of hotels are offering their facilities and trainers to provide workouts and spa treatments for free.

QiGong at the Shangri-la

ABU DHABI: Saturday’s roster of events at the Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri kicks off with a free 60-minute QiGong session at 9am. QiGong, or Chi Gong, which means “life energy cultivation,” is an ancient Chinese martial art that focuses on breathing, meditation and coordinated posture. Participants discover their inner energy, or “chi,” and help it to flow freely. Expect, also, dragon boat races at 5.30pm.

BeStrong Scientific Fitness at the Westin

DUBAI: The Westin Dubai, Al Habtoor City, is working with trainers from BeStrong Scientific Fitness to celebrate Global Wellness day all weekend long, with free 60-minute classes from 5pm. On Thursday, you’ll find modern dance, and on Friday yoga. Then, it’s circuit training at WestinWORKOUT on Saturday and an air-drumming session on Sunday. (Heavenly Spa is also offering 30-minute treatments for Dh100 on Saturday.)

DUBAI: The two Four Seasons hotels in Dubai are calling their full day of free activities on Saturday to celebrate Global Wellness Day “Nama-Stay.” At the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, the day begins with a 7.30am Sunrise with Serenity yoga class on a floating platform in the sea. It continues with a 45-minute HIIT workout from 1pm, followed by a workshop on using aromatherapy to improve sleep, foot massages by the indoor pool and wraps up with a sunset yin/yang yoga flow in partnership with a new Dubai-based wellness app, Core8. The Four Seasons Hotel DIFC is offering free 15-minute aromatherapy massages all day long, as well as first-come, first-served one-on-one sessions with the holistic healer, Muneeza Jaffer Labuschagne, from 9-11am and 2-6pm.

Yoga at The Rosewood

ABU DHABI: The Rosewood hotel is providing a full two-day roster of activities to mark Global Wellness Day, running from 10am to 6pm Friday and Saturday. Among these is a free yoga introduction (10am-10.50am) and a variety of activities that include children’s fitness classes, body composition analysis, high-intensity interval training classes and free body composition analysis.

Chilling at Al Maha Desert Resort

DUBAI: This should be gorgeous: rise and shine for a free morning yoga class at the Al Maha Desert Resort, from 7-8am on Saturday. It will be conducted over by the Timeless Spa’s infinity pool, which overlooks some amazing sand dunes. There will be discounts on breakfasts for those who aren’t fasting (50 per cent off at Al Diwaan) and on spa treatments. In addition, pool access will cost just Dh125.

Yoga at the Shangri-La

DUBAI: Free yoga and spin classes are on the cards Saturday evening at the Shangri-La, Sheikh Zayed Road. Yoga at the Health Club runs from 8-9pm, 45 minutes of spinning from 9.15pm and free organic facemask at 10pm.
