Mo Fulat is a personal trainer – but he hasn’t always been fit. This Manchester-born, Dubai-based trainer once gained 30 kilograms after suffering an injury. Here’s how he stays the fitness course – starting with a morning routine that includes both muffins and moisturizer. You can join his more than 50,0000 Instagram followers @MoFitFulat – but first, read his own words about having a fit day.
I start at 6am. That’s when I make my bed, wash my face and moisturize — a must for all you guys out there. I get up early to prepare all my meals in bulk, which is something I highly recommend. It lets you be worry-free about meals for the rest of the day. I respond to emails and business-related messages, but not before having a strong coffee — also a must.
I head out for my cardio. Usually this is a 45-minute walk and jog outdoors. This is when I first get on social media for the day.
Around 8am I have breakfast, which is almost always the same. It’s some combo of eggs, oats and avocado. I eat as I listen to podcasts. Currently I’m listening to Gary Vee [Vaynerchuk]. Highly recommended. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me. A balanced, healthy breakfast will help burn fat, keep blood sugar even throughout the day and fight daytime cravings, something we all struggle with. I then jot down all plans for the day and prioritize them depending on their urgency and importance, before next heading out for my first client of the day.
I first got into fitness as a confidence thing. At 15 years old, fitness was about building an identity that I wanted to embody. I started out playing county cricket for five years and becoming one of the best fast-paced bowlers in the UK. Unfortunately I suffered an injury which kept me out of fitness for a while and my goals shifted toward work and business. From around 20 to 28 years old, I had little to no routine in fitness. I gained 30 kilograms of weight from poor food choices and a lack of activity.
Weight lifting became an outlet. It was somewhere I could push and challenge myself to make a change, as well as to continue to build toward that image I wanted to create as a 15-year-old kid. The vision is still alive today. After five years of training consistently, I find myself in a healthy and happy place within my life.
I call the weekends ‘me time’ or ‘me weekends’! First, I like to wake up without an alarm clock. It’s a great feeling waking up naturally, knowing I got the exact amount of sleep my body needed. On the weekend, I love spending more time on social media to communicate with people in different countries all over the world. I try to help other people achieve their goals in health and fitness.
My favorite indulgent breakfast treat? It has to be a caramel mocha coffee and blueberry muffin.
My go-to healthy recipe is an egg breakfast muffin. Don’t judge them until you’ve tried yourself. These guys are so simple to make ahead of time. Blend or whisk eggs with spinach, turkey bacon and cheese, then pour the mixture into muffin tins. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes before serving or storing in the fridge for later.
I encourage everyone to immerse themselves in a workout and nutrition routine. They will find out just how much it uplifts their confidence, their self image and their identity.
