Kelsey Wells has more than 2.5 million followers on Instagram, many of them drawn to the new mom’s incredible home workouts — PWR At Home — and constant stream of positive messaging.
Although she’s as fit and slender as a celebrity trainer can be, Wells first went viral around a campaign encouraging women to ‘screw the scales’. Now she’s bringing that health-not-aesthetics focus to Dubai Active for the first time, where she will host her last live PWR session of the year.
Wells’s workouts and public sessions will happen Friday and Saturday (December 6 and 7), including a meet-and-greet, exercise session, and live on-stage Q&A. Ahead of it all, she spoke to livehealthy.ae.
What fitness advice do you have for new moms?
“Be kind to yourself and remember that your body has gone through something miraculous, and although it may feel different, don’t be discouraged,” says Wells.
The crucial thing is to focus on gratitude towards your body and all the powerful, incredible things it has gone through to bring life into the world.
“Also take it just one day at a time. The post-pregnancy period is a really special and delicate time for any mother, and the focus should not be about what you look like, but more so on how you feel and spending quality time with the newborn.”
Once a doctor has given you the go-ahead, continues Wells, then look at finding a balance between the busy new-mom schedule and your own fitness goals.
“Some days you may have time to fit in a 30-minute session. Other days you might only have time for 10 minutes. Be proud of every effort you put in, and don’t forget to celebrate the little wins along the way.”
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
“What others think about you is none of your business,” says Wells. “We can’t live in fear. We can’t not be ourselves. We can’t hold back and not be authentic because we’re worried about what people think.”
The only thing we can control, she continues, is our own authenticity.
“You will always have inner peace and happiness when you are living your truth and when you let go of the opinions of others.”
What’s a mistake you do you not wish to repeat?
This goes back to living your own truth, explains Wells.
“One mistake I made was falling into the trap of comparing myself to others. Each person is unique and anyone else’s strengths or wins do not detract from your own.”
Her tip is to stay confident in yourself while also being happy for others.
How should people use social media?
Wells is big into being yourself, and that goes for online too.
“Stay authentic and true,” she stresses. “Don’t worry about how anyone else is doing it. It’s important to create content and put yourself out there however feels right for you.”
By coming from a place of authenticity and truth, you’ll be successful, she adds.
Kelsey Wells is hosting a live PWR session in the Dubai Active Arena on Friday, December 6 at 12pm, followed by a meet-and-greet. She will also do a live Q+A session on Saturday, December 7 at 2pm.
