Corona Sunsets Festival is all about the environment

Another weekend in Dubai, another festival. Or is it? The Corona Sunsets Festival, running this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (October 25-27 2018) will have music and a Barasti Beach setting – not to mention rare free entry.

The emphasis is on fun, of course, but with a healthy portion of education on creative and inventive ways to be more eco-friendly. With Corona as a sponsor there will be a focus on the hospitality industry, of course, and that sector does have a lot to answer for what with its straws, swizzle sticks, napkins and industrial cleaning products.

Corona has enlisted Ryan Ingram, eco-warrior and founder of TerraLoop, the Middle East’s first food waste consultancy, and Angus McGregor, cocktail designer and zero-waste advocate, to form the Clean Waves Collective. They will give demonstrations on how to create zero-waste cocktails at a ecologically sound pop-up bar, from the ingredients and glassware down to non-toxic cleaning products.

Also on hand: Dubai-based Scandanavian duo Anna Nielsen and Henna Kaarlela, who launched OHOY SWIM last year to produce bathing suits made from all the world’s recycled fishing nets and other ocean plastics. Reclaimed wooden sunglasses from Wildwood, eco-friendly body art and glitter and  live art made from recycled waste are among the other eco-offerings,

Entry to the Corona Sunsets Festival is free; visitors must be 21. The festival runs at Barasti Beach (at Le Meridien Mina Syahi Beach Resort & Marina Dubai ). Hours are Thursday 4pm to 3am; Friday 9am to 3am; and Saturday 10am to 1.30am.
