Dr Jonathan Conroy is a British surgeon and engineer who has done over 1,000 surgeries. But he’s not the one wielding the scalpel in all these hip and knee replacements: a robot is. These robotic-assisted surgeries have been brought to the UAE by Mubadala Health partner Healthpoint. Yet while the evidence shows that this new technology provides greater accuracy, better outcomes, faster recovery, and less pain for patients, in a recent poll conducted by the Dubai Future Foundation on Linkedin, 60 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t consider it. We talk to Dr Conroy, one of the most prominent robotic orthopedic surgeons in the field, about what it’s like to be on the cutting edge.
