All the art events this week

In a Dubai fitness challenge slump? Don’t just exercise your brawn, exercise your creative side as well. Or at the very least, your appreciation of it. Let us help. We’re gathered below some of the arts events happening this week.

1. Jameel Arts Centre

Head over to the Dubai Jaddaf Waterfront for the inaugural week of the Jameel Arts Center. Walk through the new arts center’s seven “artist rooms” and make sure to see WATERLICHT, the immersive light installation by Daan Roosegaarde. The light installation will be exhibited until Friday, check the Jameel Arts Center’s website for timings.

2. Abu Dhabi Art

Abu Dhabi’s most anticipated art event is back. From November 14 to November 17, Manarat Al Saadiyat will host Abu Dhabi Art. Get your tickets for the art fair today. The fair boasts local and international artists, as well as great programming alongside the fair.

3. Dubai Design Week

If you live in Sharjah or Dubai and Abu Dhabi Art is simply too far, don’t fret. The Dubai Design District is hosting the largest design trade fair in the Middle East this week. Dubai Design Week is chock full of events. There are talks, public immersive installations and workshops. Best of all, it’s open to the public and free.

4. Fikra Graphic Design Biennale

Abu Dhabi and Dubai are not the only emirates with art events this week. In tandem with Dubai Design Week, Sharjah is hosting its first ever graphic design biennale, the Fikra Graphic Design Biennale.  Go support the UAE’s newest biennale.

5. Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has a new temporary exhibit to mark its first anniversary. Roads of Arabia takes you on a journey through time, where the artifacts on display show how the Gulf has changed over the centuries. The exhibition includes loan items from museums in Saudi Arabia and Al Ain, among others.

6. Warehouse 421

This Friday, Warehouse 421 will be unveil two new exhibits: Odysseus, a photograph series by Tarek Al-Ghoussein, and Hundred Best Arabic Posters. See them after Abu Dhabi Art this weekend.

7. Dubai Opera

On November 14, for one night only, Dubai Opera is presenting “Waterworks.” The Baltic Sea Philharmonic’s orchestral piece is a visual and aural spectacle with “cutting-edge projection, lighting and sound design.”

8. Al Serkal Avenue

If you’re in the Al Qouz area, Al Serkal Avenue has a robust programming schedule for November as well. Many of the galleries are exhibiting new work. There are workshops, talks and movies, too. Check out their website for a full list of events.
